Cornus officinalis is no warm weather sissy

Almost all that snow is gone now. After insignificant melting Tuesday morning it was pretty much gone by Wednesday afternoon.! Good riddance I say.The early-flowering dogwoods forge ahead as this week's snow melts and the forecasts are just crystallizing around next weeks storm. Day length seems to be winning over cold and snow. Many of the Flowering apricots in the Prunus Collection are in full bloom.

Oh no! Not Winter Wonderland again.

Happy St. Patrick's Day. Nine more inches of snow. This is the damnedest winter. Every week for the last month or so we've had a "winter event". It's still a few days till the first day of spring, but this is the "equinox" hereabouts. We went from 11 hours and 58 minutes of daylight yesterday to 12 hours and 46 seconds today. Spring has to be coming but there's a stretch of a couple days early next week that look suspiciously like they could turn into something like what's out there now. Or maybe not. we can always hope!

Notice the sad looking Sabal palmetto in the right foreground. Up close it still looks like it's going to make it but it does look dead in this picture! Time will tell.
